Here is the story from Kristie shared on Yelp. Enjoy!
The beautiful island of Kauai was my first choice for an intimate destination wedding. I had always dreamed of a quaint beach-side wedding with only a handful of guests to witness the occasion. Soon after our engagement, my adventurous spirit became caught up in something I had read in The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed about helicopter weddings. After a little more research on the internet, it seemed possible that once on Kauai, we could take a helicopter to Jurassic Falls (actually named Manawaiopuna Falls), land, get married, and then fly around the island. I was so excited! Sounded like a fairytale!
This is where Kent came in. I stumbled across his wedding website coconutcoastweddings.com in my research, I sent an email for information, and soon, my husband-to-be and I were on the phone with Kent asking about packages and details. Kent was extremely helpful and he made all the phone calls to helicopter companies to find out the skinny on the Jurassic Falls trip. As it turned out, only one company, Island Helicopter, had a tour that would land at the falls. And, much to my disappointment, the land around the falls was considered sacred ground, meaning no official marriage ceremonies could be conducted. So, a change in plans.
Kent suggested that we have the ceremony on one of Kauai’s beautiful beaches. We were planning to stay on the north shore because of the stunning Na Pali Coast backdrop. Kent presented us with two ideas, and he had plenty of photos to back up both of the gorgeous scenarios! Anini Beach with it’s calm waves at shore due to a giant outer reef, or Tunnels Beach near Camp Naue with crazy surf and the most picturesque view of Bali Hai, near the Na Pali Coast. We chose the beach near Camp Naue.
Our plan now included a beautiful intimate wedding on the beach followed by a helicopter trip to Jurassic Falls for some of the most stunning wedding photos imaginable. Kent was now on board for wedding photos on the beach before and after the ceremony, and then joining us on the helicopter for more wedding photos at the falls!
Months went by as I anxiously awaited our trip to Kauai and wedding date! After we landed on Kauai, we contacted Kent, and met up with him on the north shore on a rainy Monday morning. He warned us of Kauai’s rainy weather, even suggesting moving the big day to later in the week because of a predicted rainy forecast for our wedding day. After some thought, we decided that a few drops of rain wouldn’t hurt anybody and we left our original plans intact. But beware, downpours can come and go on Kauai at the drop of a hat. You just have to roll with it, and the sun will come out!
On our special day, we felt like royalty. The most perfect beach ceremony with Hawaiian traditions, flower leis, and a duo of musicians for our first dance, all beachside. Kent took so many great photos, during all parts of the ceremony. He had completely integrated himself in our special day, always working, but never interrupting any special moments. We had a cute little picnic lunch and then were whisked away via limo to the airport for our helicopter tour. Again, stunning, amazing photos. A trip that will not be forgotten. The whole day was picture perfect and perfectly documented by Kent. And, as for rain, we had a few drops at the end of the ceremony, and Kent caught us in photos under an umbrella, walking along the surf!
We couldn’t have made a better choice! Kent was completely amazing! I would recommend him a thousand times over. He was so easygoing and he kept up with all of our demands, making sure he captured every last moment and guest. He helped us with every detail including setting up our marriage license appointment, marriage official (Koko is by far the best) flowers, hair and makeup (Dianne Gardner is the best), catered picnic lunch, limo ride, helicopter tour, and our catered luau reception at an Anini beach house (ask for Julie Kanealii’s luau menu – delicious!!). What a day! Thanks Kent! You made my dream wedding come true!
